Community Engagement Coordinator
Schedule: 2-3 days in-office weekly + event coverage as needed (around class schedule)
Pay: Hourly
The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with local and university bodies, positioning The State News as a consistent, prevalent organization in the MSU-Lansing community. Daily tasks include researching upcoming events TSN may sponsor or participate in, working with organizers to ensure TSN’s involvement in such events and arranging TSN’s own events to positively posture the organization before the Spartan community.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled as a full-time student at Michigan State University
- Proficiency in Basecamp, Canva, Slack and Google Workspace or any other cloud-based software platforms
- Understand the type of marketing content that will resonate with Spartan community
- Strong communication, organization, public speaking and event management skills
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Discover upcoming events held by university or local entities that TSN would benefit from sponsoring and/or participating in.
- Organize events on behalf of TSN to publicize and reinforce the organization’s commitment to serving the MSU/Greater Lansing community.
- Attend and staff events on behalf of TSN, even those outside of normal business hours.
- Collaborate with newsroom leadership and the advertising team to position TSN as an omnipresent resource in the campus community.
- Encourage the student body to interact with our content – digital and physical – in effort to build meaningful connections and expand our audience.
- Attend weekly advertising team meetings held in conjunction with the design team.
- Maintain regular newsroom office hours as determined by the advertising and business director.
