Pay: Per-Assignment Rate (3 stories per week, 2 days in the newsroom, weekends, travel)
QUALIFICATIONS
Enrolled as a full-time student at Michigan State University (12+ credit hours)
Understands the type of news content apt to resonate with the Spartan community
Strong writer, interviewer
Able to meet deadlines
JOB DESCRIPTION
Produces content related to MSU’s football team, including game and post-game stories, features and content from the media availabilities.
Writes stories beyond game coverage on trends, features
Attends all home games as restrictions allow and writes follow-up stories in a timely manner.
Attends away games.
Figures out creative ways to cover away games we do not travel to.
Attends all media availabilities for football news, including weekly player and coach availability.
Develops source relationships to ensure The State News stays in the loop with football-related news. This includes getting on the correct mailing list and being notified about breaking news immediately
Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.
Creates stories that are informative, interesting, fair and accurate.
Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the editor-in-chief and sports editor.
Primarily responsible for writing football stories, but is not limited to those stories and can also write other types of articles.
