Pay: Per Assignment Rate (2 stories per week, 2 days in the newsroom, weekends, travel)

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Enrolled as a full-time student at Michigan State University (12+ credit hours)
• Understand the type of news content apt to resonate with Spartan community
• Strong writer, interviewer
• Able to meet deadline

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Produces content related to MSU’s soccer team, including game and post-game stories, features and content from the media availabilities.
• Attends as many home games as restrictions allow and writes follow-up stories in a timely manner.
• Reports on away games as thoroughly as possible.
• Attends all media availabilities for soccer news, including player and coach availability if possible.
• Develops source relationships to ensure The State News stays in the loop with soccer-related news. This includes getting on the correct mailing list and being notified about breaking news immediately
• Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.
• Creates stories that are informative, interesting, fair and accurate.
• Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the editor-in-chief.
• Primarily responsible for writing soccer stories, but is not limited to those stories and can also write other types of articles.
