Pay: Per-Assignment Rate (2 stories per week, 2 days in the newsroom)
QUALIFICATIONS
Enrolled as a full-time student at Michigan State University (12+ credit hours)
Understands the type of news content apt to resonate with the Spartan community
Strong writer, interviewer
Able to meet deadlines
JOB DESCRIPTION
Produces content related to issues and interests in a variety of MSU student groups. What are they advocating for? What resources are available to them? What issues are affecting them? This is a features beat
This includes groups like:
International students
Adult and parent students
Transfer students
Out-of-state students
First-generation students
Grad students
Interesting student organizations
Focuses more on the features angles rather than hard news
Looks in unique places for student-related stories, including social media, word of mouth, etc.
Collaborates and communicates often with visual journalists on each story to help create the most engaging content.
Works with editors and fellow reporters during breaking news to ensure it is covered and that someone reaches the scene as quickly as possible.
Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.
Creates stories that are informative, interesting, fair, and accurate.
Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the managing editor
