Newsroom - MSU Student Life/Features Reporter
Pay: Per Assignment Rate (2 stories per week, 2 days in the newsroom)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled as a full-time student at Michigan State University (12+ credit hours)
- Understand the type of news content apt to resonate with Spartan community
- Strong writer, interviewer
- Able to meet deadline
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Produces content related to issues and interests in a variety of MSU student groups. What are they advocating for? What resources are available to them? What issues are affecting them? This is a features beat
- This includes groups like:
- International students
- Adult and parent students
- Transfer students
- Out-of-state students
- First-generation students
- Grad students
- Interesting student organizations
- Focuses more on the features angles rather than hard news
- Looks in unique places for student-related stories, including social media, word of mouth, etc.
- Collaborates and communicates often with visual journalists on each story to help create the most engaging content.
- Works with the editors and fellow reporters when breaking news happens to ensure it is covered and someone gets to the scene as quickly as possible.
- Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.
- Creates stories that are informative, interesting, fair and accurate.
- Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the managing editor
