Newsroom - Student Affairs and ASMSU Reporter
Pay: Per Assignment Rate (2 stories per week, 2 days in the newsroom)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled as a full-time student at Michigan State University (12+ credit hours)
- Understand the type of news content apt to resonate with Spartan community
- Strong writer, interviewer
- Able to meet deadline
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Produces content related to registered student organization interests and concerns as well as student life on MSU’s campus.
- This is different than ‘student life’ beats. This is focused on hard news.
- Stays in contact/creates professional relationship with MSU CORES groups, like Black Student Alliance, Native American and Indigenous Student Organization, Asian Pacific American Student Organization and Culturas de las Razas Unidas.
- Stays in contact with MSU COPS groups, like the Alliance for Queer and Allied Students, Arab Cultural Society, Campus Interfaith Council, Council for Students with Disabilities, International Student Association, Jewish Student Union, Spartan Armed Forces and Women's Council.
- Stays in contact with ASMSU
- Stays well-informed on the happenings on campus that affect students, determining if events are newsworthy and the best way they should be covered to show multiple, diverse student perspectives.
- Collaborates and communicates often with visual journalists on each story to help create the most engaging content.
- Works with the editors and fellow reporters when breaking news happens to ensure it is covered and someone gets to the scene as quickly as possible.
- Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.
- Creates stories that are informative, interesting, fair and accurate.
- Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the managing editor.
