Newsroom - General Assignment Reporter (News, Sports, Arts & Entertainment, Opinion)
Pay: Per Assignment Rate (2-3 stories per week, 2 days in the newsroom)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled as a full-time student at Michigan State University (12+ credit hours)
- Understand the type of news content apt to resonate with Spartan community
- Strong writer, interviewer
- Able to meet deadline
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Works with desk editor to produce content related area of coverage
- Pitches and writes Feature stories as needed
- Story assignments are not limited to one specific beat and can often span across multiple coverage areas.
- Looks in unique places for story ideas, like social media, press conferences, etc.
- Collaborates and communicates often with visual journalists on each story to help create the most engaging content.
- Works with the editors and fellow reporters when breaking news happens to ensure it is covered and someone gets to the scene as quickly as possible.
- Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.
- Creates stories that are informative, interesting, fair and accurate.
- Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the managing editor.
