Pay: Per-Assignment Rate (2 stories per week, 2 days in the newsroom)

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Enrolled as a full-time student at Michigan State University (12+ credit hours)

• Understand the type of news content apt to resonate with the Spartan community

• Strong writer, interviewer

• Able to meet deadlines

• Worked at State News for at least one semester

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Produces stories related to MSU administration, administrative policies, MSU academic policies, and other campus and student-related interests and concerns.

• Works to find the most engaging and interesting stories related to MSU administrative policies and academic concerns while finding the most engaging, interesting, and interactive ways to tell these stories.

• Attends every MSU Board of Trustees meeting and writes follow-up stories in a timely manner.

• Collaborates and communicates often with visual journalists on each story to help create the most engaging content.

• Works with editors and fellow reporters during breaking news to ensure it is covered and that someone reaches the scene as quickly as possible.

• Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.

• Creates stories that are informative, interesting, fair, and accurate.

• Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the managing editor.
