Pay: Per-Assignment Rate (3 stories per week, 3 days in the newsroom)

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Enrolled as a full-time student at Michigan State University (12+ credit hours)

• Understands the type of news content apt to resonate with the Spartan community

• Strong writer, interviewer

• Able to meet deadlines

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Produces content related to political issues affecting students and the community.

  • This includes national and statewide legislative action, elections, voting, and civil rights.

  • How might this political action affect students? Analyze and break it down for our audience.

  • Focuses on localizing national and statewide issues specifically for a student audience. What are students thinking and feeling about these issues?

• Looks in unique places for political stories.

• Collaborates and communicates often with visual journalists on each story to help create the most engaging content.

• Works with editors and fellow reporters during breaking news to ensure it is covered and that someone reaches the scene as quickly as possible.

• Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.

• Creates stories that are informative, interesting, fair, and accurate.

• Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the managing editor.
