Newsroom - Columnist (Opinion Desk)
Pay: Per Content Rate (1 article per week, 1 day in the newsroom)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled as a full-time student at Michigan State University (12+ credit hours)
- Understand the type of news content apt to resonate with Spartan community
- Strong writer, interviewer
- Able to meet deadline
- Worked at State News at least 2 semesters
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Works with opinion coordinator to produce well-reported columns on issues that students care about, focusing on being the narrator of a column that centers around other people and their opinions
- Looks in unique places for story ideas, like social media, campus, etc.
- Collaborates and communicates often with visual journalists on each story to help create the most engaging content.
- Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.
- Creates stories that are informative, interesting, fair and accurate.
- Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the managing editor.
