Newsroom - Opinion Desk Coordinator
Pay: Per Day Rate (3 days per week)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled as a full-time student at Michigan State University (12+ credit hours)
- Understand the type of news content apt to resonate with Spartan community
- Strong writer, interviewer
- Able to meet deadline
- Worked at State News at least 2 semesters
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Ensures all reporters create content regularly and that student interests and concerns are being covered by reporters.
- Works to recruit contributors across entire campus beyond just Journalism School
- Works with staff to set story deadlines and accountability measures. Keeps up with team members’ progress on assignments; intercedes if necessary.
- Edits and publishes articles.
- Works with reporters to brainstorm and consider potential visuals for each story.
- Leads editorial board meetings and contributes ideas for editorials and their personal opinion on editorial topics.
- Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the managing editor.
- Keeps track of team’s pay on newsroomwide document, preferably on a daily basis.
