The State News Media Group
Unique work Opportunities
For over a century, The State News has served as a cornerstone of journalism for Michigan State University and the greater East Lansing and Lansing communities. As one of the few remaining independent, nonprofit student-run media organizations in the United States, we operate from our media building next to MSU's campus, where we cover stories that matter to a vibrant university community of students, staff, faculty, administrators, alumni and community members at this globally recognized institution.
Workplace & Culture
The State News offers mentorship, professional training, and paid positions to hundreds of MSU students each year. Our student journalists develop essential skills in effective communication, critical thinking, and collaborative teamwork while gaining hands-on experience in an authentic multi-platform newsroom environment.
